Walking with individuals and couples at Mount Hope Christian Counseling Center

Hello there! I’m Jonathan.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Since 2014, I have had the privilege of walking alongside hundreds of couples and individuals in dozens of countries. As a pastoral counselor, empathetic coach, Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC), I have experience journeying with people through issues such as grief and loss, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, abuse (spiritual, sexual, physical, emotional), debriefing, ministry burnout, addictions, and more.

With couples, I utilize an attachment-based, emotion-focused approach. I also greatly appreciate the evidence-based tools and resources from Dr. John Gottman. With all clients, I take a person-centered, trauma-informed, experiential approach.

From 2012 to 2020, my family and I lived as cross-cultural missionaries in Phnom Penh Cambodia and I served the community as a pastor at an international church and as a pastoral counselor at a local counseling center.

Before Cambodia, I worked bi-vocationally as an ER/trauma nurse and youth and worship pastor. I am also a licensed attorney in California and hold a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Colorado Christian University.

As a PLPC, I am supervised by Dr. Karl Wendt, LPC #001808.

Why Stone and Sky?

When life or relationships get hard, when we find ourselves shaken by loss or pain or trauma, we need something sturdy and solid to stand on. We need to find our feet. Sometimes, it can feel like we’ve lost all moorings and we’re not sure if things will ever be OK again.

But we don’t just need to look down and find our footing; we also need to look up and see the sky again. We need hope and a clear sunrise. Sometimes, we need to know that it is possible to come up out of hell as Dante did in Inferno, and “rebehold the stars.”

That’s what Stone and Sky is all about.
